Dear friends I would like to introduce you to a BRAND NEW friend. how can I describe this lady? one word "SURVIVOR" Cristina commented on my poem "breast cancer" and she herself is a survivor of this awful disease so many women contract these days, Cristina is an award winning writer and it gives me pleasure to promote her blog today.
Cristina Trapani-Scott is an award-winning writer whose poetry, fiction, and essays have been published online and in print in such publications at Hip Mamamagazine, Mamazine.com, Public-Republic, Salamander Poems and the Bear River Review. Her work also appears in the Writers Reading at Sweetwaters Anthology, and she has work forthcoming in More Sweet Lemons, an anthology of writings on Sicilian Culture and the anthology Cup of Comfort for a Better World. As a journalist for the weekly publication the Tecumseh Herald, she has earned awards from the National Newspaper Association for both humor and serious columns and from the Michigan Press Association for her column and spot news writing. In addition, she’s earned two Chelsea Poetry Competition Awards, a first place in 2003 and an honorable mention in 2004. She also earned an honorable mention for her short story “It’s Only a Matter of Survival” in the 2008Metro Detroit Writers Member Contest, and she won two Kentuckiana Metroversity Writing Contest awards as a student in the brief-residency Master of Fine Art in Writing program at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born and raised in Metro Detroit, Cristina was exposed to the arts at a young age by her mother, a sculptor and painter, and her father, an bean counter turned painter. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant and studied English and art at Madonna University in Livonia. She completed her Master of Fine Art studies in May of 2009 and continues to write for the Tecumseh Herald, freelance for such publication as Faith Magazine, and teach writing at Baker College in Auburn Hills.
